The Ford Times and Dealer Publications Department records series is organized into four subseries. The Freedom of the American Road subseries, 1955-1956 (1 folder) Acc. 579, includes internal brochures, printed posters, form letters and books regarding the Freedom of the American Road highway improvement program. The Publications Office Correspondence subseries, 1949-1951 (4.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 544, contains editorials, memorandums, press releases and incoming correspondence to William Kennedy from various offices and departments. The William J. Cameron records subseries, 1918-1950 (16.8 cubic ft. and 3 oversize boxes), Acc. 474, contains article mockups for publication, 1940-1941; correspondence files of the following people: William J. Cameron, 1932-1936; Frank C. Campsell, 1919; William D. Kennedy, 1946; Ernest G. Liebold, 1919; correspondence relating to Chicago Tribune Case, 1918-1919; Automobile Safety Contests,1950; and Sunday Evening Hour Programs, 1939-1940; speech drafts from Sunday Evening Hour and Cameron speeches. The William D. Kennedy records subseries, 1936-1951 (5.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 452 and 727, contain automobile and travel publications, correspondence, fortieth anniversary records, and subject files.

William John Cameron was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on December 29, 1878. At the age of nine his family moved to Detroit, Michigan. In 1904 he became a reporter and staff writer for the Detroit News. Cameron left the Detroit News in 1918 and joined the staff of the new Ford-sponsored weekly newspaper, the Dearborn Independent, and in 1920 he became editor.
